Changing phone numbers and email addresses on your website

This page explains how to change phone numbers and email addresses on websites built by us. These details are not edited directly on pages. They are managed in one place to keep everything consistent across the site.

To make updates safer, phone and email information is stored in the WordPress Customiser. This avoids missed updates and prevents broken links or incorrect click actions.

This instruction applies only to websites created by us. Other WordPress sites may work differently.

To manage phones and email, we use the WordPress Customiser

How phone numbers work on your website

Each phone number has two parts. The display number is what visitors see on the screen. The call number is the number that is dialled when someone clicks or taps it. These are kept separate on purpose. This allows readable formatting for visitors while keeping the click action correct. Email addresses are managed in the same place.

Steps to update phone numbers and email addresses

1. Open the WordPress Customiser
Log in to WordPress. From the left menu, go to Appearance and then click Customise. This opens the Customiser panel.

2. Open the Contacts section
Inside the Customiser, find and click the Contacts section. This is where all contact details for the website are stored.

3. Review existing contact details
You will see all phone numbers used across the website and the main email address. Take a moment to look through them before making changes.

4. Update the display phone number
Change the display number to match how you want visitors to see it. This can include spaces for readability.

5. Update the call phone number
Update the call number with the exact number that should be dialled when clicked. Use digits only and include the correct country code if needed.

6. Update the email address
Replace the email address if required. Double check spelling, as this address will be used across the site.

7. Publish your changes
Click the Publish button at the top of the Customiser. The updates will apply immediately across the website.

Important notes

All changes made in the Customiser affect the entire website. If something does not look right after publishing, you can reopen the Customiser, adjust the details, and publish again.

If you do not see the Contacts section, this website was not built using our system and this guide does not apply.

No. Phone numbers and email addresses are stored in one place. Updating them in the Customiser updates them everywhere they are used on the website.

One number is for display. This is what visitors see on the screen. The other is the call number. This is the number that is dialled when someone clicks or taps it. Keeping them separate prevents broken links and wrong calls.

Always include the country code to make sure the number works for callers from any location. You may include the + symbol at the beginning, for example +44 for the UK. Do not use spaces, brackets, or other symbols.

No. The number of phone fields is set by the developer. If you need to add another phone number or email address, contact your website developer. They can add new fields so the details appear correctly in the Customiser.

This is usually caused by caching. Try refreshing the page or clearing the website cache. If it still shows the old number, reopen the Customiser and check that the changes were published.

You can reopen the Customiser at any time and correct it. Once published, the new number will replace the previous one across the site.

No. On websites built by us, contact details should only be changed in the Customiser. Editing them inside pages will not update all locations.

It usually means the website was not built by us or was heavily modified. In that case, this guide does not apply and you should ask for current website developer support.
